How to console others when being informed of a death in their family? 4 comments

hibikirush asked:

I have not yet had to deal with someone close to me informing me of a death of their relative/friend, but I know that day will come sometime. I just had an ‘acquaintance’ inform me that one of their parents had died, and it was very out of nowhere. What are some suggestions on offering consolation in these types of situations? I found myself not knowing what to say…

Is a black tie only appropriate for funerals? 4 comments

JPnips asked:

I’m going to a high school formal dance which requires a suit. The only tie I’ve got is a black one that I bought on sale years back. I’ve heard some people say that black ties are only appropriate for funerals and are not good for any other social gatherings such as a dance.
Is this true? And what are the appropriate occasions for a black colored tie?

I’m doing an assignment for English and I want to do a small skit where, in the beginning, there is a funeral. What is normally said at the start of funerals?
