Do you think attending unknown funerals is good research for writing a funeral scene? 8 comments

AKAO4D asked:

I am writing a funeral scene for my soon to be finished book. I am looking for funny incidents that happen at funerals. It was suggested that I attend funerals of people I don’t know to do my research. Do you think this is a good idea? Do you know of anything funny that happen at a funeral you attended or read about in a book? There is a funny funeral scene in Tina McElroy’s “Ugly Ways”, Have you read it?

djthrenody189 asked:

There was a specific poem that had to do with telling someone that you’re dying of aids. I found it years ago in my high school library, so I figure it’s for young adults, and the title might have the word ‘blue’ in it.

Which literary characters spring to your mind when you think of a near death awakening experience? 4 comments

Sonja asked:

I’m writing a paper on death in literature and I could use some examples of characters who change completely due to confronting death (such as Dickens’s Scrooge or Tolstoy’s Ivan Ilych). So, it needs to be a near death experience induced change. Any examples?
